Question

English pronouns play a vital role in textual cohesion by replacing nouns and establishing relationships between different parts of a sentence. Regarding the rules and functions of pronouns, mark the CORRECT alternative.

Accepted Answer

C) The relative pronoun "whom" is used as the object of a verb or preposition in formal contexts, while "whose" is used to indicate a possessive relationship between two nouns.

Answer

A) The relative pronoun "which" can be used to refer to people in restrictive relative clauses, provided that the person is being described in terms of their professional function or social status.

Answer

B) Object pronouns (e.g., "me", "him", "us") should be used as the subject of a sentence whenever the verb is in the passive voice and the agent is unknown or irrelevant to the context.

Answer

D) Possessive adjectives (e.g., "my", "your") are used to replace a noun completely, whereas possessive pronouns (e.g., "mine", "yours") must always be followed by the noun they modify.

Answer

E) Reflexive pronouns, such as "myself" or "themselves", are used exclusively to emphasize the subject of the sentence, being grammatically incorrect to use them when the subject and object are the same person.
