Instructions: answer the questions 31 and 40 based on the following text. 1 Botswana has cancelled the licenses of two 2 professional hunters who shot dead a research 3 elephant. 4 Michael Lee Potter and Kevin Sharp had 5 voluntarily surrendered their hunting licenses, 6 a government statement said. 7 Botswana lifted a ban elephant hunting in 8 May, citing growing conflict between humans 9 and the animals. 10 The number of elephants in Botswana is 11 estimated to be about 130,000. 12 However the elephant, which was shot last 13 month, had been collared - giving it protected 14 status ___ a research elephant. 15 In a statement on Saturday night, the 16 government said: "The period of the surrender 17 of Mr. Potter's license is indefinite while Mr. 18 Sharp's license will be surrendered for a 19 period of three years with immediate effect." 20 It did not provide information about the 21 nationality ___ the two men. Neither of the men 22 were available for comment. 23 The two men have also been ordered to 24 replace the elephant's destroyed collar, the 25 government said. 26 It is not clear how the elephant's collar was 27 damaged. 28 According to an earlier government statement, 29 the hunters said they had not seen the collar 30 because "the elephant was in a full-frontal 31 position". 32 "Once the animal was down, they realized it 33 had a collar on it placed for research 9 34 purposes." 35 However, Neil Fitt from the Kalahari 36 Conservation Society questioned this, telling 37 AFP that elephant collars are "extremely large". 38 Meanwhile, Reuters news agency reported 39 that the two men had destroyed the collar in 40 an attempt to hide the evidence. 41 Last June Botswana President Mokgweetsi 42 Masisi set up a committee to 43 review the hunting ban imposed by his 44 predecessor Ian Khama in 2014. 45 In February, the committee recommended 46 allowing hunting again. 47 Officials said the move was driven by increase 48 in human and wildlife conflict. 49 Elephants can be very destructive when they 50 encroach onto farmland and move though 51 villages - destroying crops and sometimes 52 killing people. 53 Most of the country's elephants live in the 54 country's northern region, roaming across 55 borders into Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. 56 There are some 415,000 elephants in Africa, 57 according to the International Union for 58 Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with the 59 population having been decimated largely due 60 to poaching for ivory.
