Questão de Língua Inglesa

14 If you’re spending an excessive amount of time on social media and feelings of sadness, 15 frustration, or loneliness are impacting your life, it may be time to re-examine your online 16 habits and find a healthier balance. Overusing it can weigh on your well-being in various ways, 17 including by creating a sense of inadequacy. Even if you know that the images you’re viewing 18 are manipulated, they can still make you feel insecure about how you look or what’s going on 19 in your own life. The more you prioritize social media interaction over in-person relationships, 20 the more at risk you are of developing or exacerbating mood disorders such as anxiety and 21 depression. If you spend more time on social media when you’re feeling down, lonely, or bored, 22 you may be using it as a way to distract yourself from unpleasant feelings or regulate your 23 mood. However, there are more effective and healthier ways to manage your moods. 24 The way you use social media also matters. While connecting virtually doesn’t have the 25 same psychological benefits as face-to-face contact, there are still ways in which it can have a 26 positive rather than a negative impact. The key is to be intentional about how you use it. Don’t 27 scroll aimlessly just to kill time. Have a purpose for logging on, whether it’s to connect with a 28 friend, share new photos, or find entertainment. Setting reminders to take a break can help. 29 Also, be selective about who you connect with. Try to follow people who inspire you or make 30 you feel positive. If someone expresses views you disagree with, or posts material that makes 31 you feel bad about yourself, unfollow them. Always question information and double-check 32 sources, as social media can also be a hive of misinformation, conspiracy theories, and 33 negativity. 34 Another important step is to limit the time you spend online. A 2018 University of 35 Pennsylvania study found that reducing social media use to 30 minutes a day resulted in a 36 significant reduction in levels of anxiety, depression, loneliness, and sleep problems. Disable 37 social media notifications and try removing the apps from your phone so you can only check 38 the platforms on your computer. The next time you access social media, pause and clarify your 39 motivation. Are you using it as a substitute for real life? If you’re lonely, for example, invite a 40 friend out for coffee instead. Feeling depressed? Take a walk or go to the gym. Bored? Take up 41 a new hobby. Social media may be quick and convenient, but there are often healthier, more 42 effective ways to satisfy a craving.
